Gamebu was the big one, iirc Kizuna Ai is slighty different in that instead of "replacing" they got more VAs so that multiple Kizuna Ais could do different work at the same time.

Besides the Kizuna Ai disaster, look up something called game-bu.
The answer is yes, it's happened in the past a couple times when companies were trying to figure out what Vtubing was. We're talking years ago. However, every single time it's happened it directly lead to the destruction of the company. This is the proof that's always used to show that vtubers are not just characters. They are avatars for the people who play them.

Cocoa was related to Gamebu being the younger sister character to one of the members. Cocoa's case is abit different in that the OG went on to do real life shit during that time and when they introduced nu-Cocoa, they made a new channel and left the OG's alone. Still dumb, just make a new char imo. Nu-Cocoa's singing isn't as good either.
