A year in I started playing a game series that allows reading at my own pace, but needed a guide to get through the first two. After ~6 more months I no longer needed a guide to help through parts as I understood things better. At this point I probably only need to look up a new word (or an old one I haven't seen in too long) once every 5-10 dialog boxes for the game series I am playing.
I cannot, in any capacity, output in nip though. Save for the most basic baby tier phrases any weeb would know. Of course, this is my fault for not doing proper learning, as I've neglected grammar. It's just been daily anki for vocabulary, and then reading whatever I feel like in a day, which most days amounts to nothing. I could have finished the game series I am playing after a year if I weren't such a lazy cunt about it, but here I am almost 2 years later and only 1/5 through the 7th game of 11, and totaling less than half the total expected playtime of the series so far.
