>>41161728I think Cover is just trying to convince themselves they have to change everything that made Hololive Hololive, because debuting a bunch of male streamers with avatars is cheaper than turning their female streamers with avatars into something more than female streamers with avatars.
Except female streamers with avatars is so low-effort and low-risk that EN corpos can do it too. The one thing (for now) that JP corpos can do that the small corpos can’t (for now) is make those streamers into anime characters that happen to stream (aka appearing in stuff other than streams and the occasional con nobody gives a shit about; even Phase can do the latter).
But an EN corpo with legit VC money that’s not afraid to throw a bunch of money into a second gen even if their first one crashes and burns? An EN corpo with EN tech money (real tech money, not “anime girl streamers? kek” money) that doesn’t care if it loses money, as long as it learns from its past mistakes? Yeah, that kind of corpo might be able to turn EN vtubing into true “JP, but in English”.
I actually watch more Phase Connect than Idol too, but I watch both and love the girls in both. I want Idol to succeed, just because I want there to be an example of how you just need to give a shit and not be too cheap to invest in trying new things to succeed in EN.
