People always blame unicorns but that really isn't the big issue, there're popular ships featuring vtubers who were previously popular surrogate relationship vtubers and the reality is that even unicorns and the adjacent will usually just quietly exit and find another vtuber without a fuss.
Ships don't function in EN because the average EN vtuber is entitled and disrespectful. A lot of the time before anyone even says anything or complains in stream comments, they're already acting like victims because they're stuck on Twitter or god forbid, decide to address fucking anonymous /vt/ posts like it's a bbig deal and they start complaining about idol culture that isn't actually encroaching on them. A lot of the time the streamers start acting like the audience is the enemy and if you dislike it, then you're labeled an incel regardless of what else you do or watch otherwise. In the worst case scenario, it's not even a good ship and the problems are obvious from a mile away so it's like the parasocial version of warning your friend that someone is going to treat them badly and they accuse you of being jealous that they're getting into a relationship. Which happens a lot of the NijiEn ships where a lot of the early ones became dumpster fires that hurt everyone involved. It's probably going to end up this way for the Kronii/Vesper shippers too but if you point out how fucked up the entire situation actually is and that Kronii is unstable and rude, and Vesper is a consistently dishonest manchild, everyone just assumes you're either a Kronii parasocial or you're jealous of Vesper being dangerously based.
