The funny thing is that the JP's are the same, when the EN market exploded a lot of them were encouraged (maybe by management, maybe they just thought it'd be nice) to learn English but all of them gave up quickly.

There's just something about learning a language that makes it utterly demotivating. It's too complex and daunting of a task for most people to undertake it for fun.

Ame seems to at least try.
It is mainly council that still can't communicate with JP. They could definitely be putting in more effort but I think they deserve more criticism over lack of streams vs not learning JP.

It actually seems like Marine and Korone's english has gotten a lot better, they just don't have practice speaking it.
I really liked the learning collabs Mumei was doing with Towa. Hopefully they do more of them after holofest when they aren't as busy.

Uhh, I say this as a hooman, she definitely is not. And she's been very open about how she will not because she's too busy. She was autistic about her reps before she was in hololive which is why she has broken knowledge, but she mostly forgot it.

Yeah but is there a single member of jp that significantly improved their english since they started? I guess maybe Haachama but she had prior experience from living in Australia, and most of her improvement came in the form of pronunciation.

Dunno if you can count them as "significantly improved" but Korone, Pekora and Subaru are definitely better than they were back in 2020. Korone was even able to translate en to jp on the fly during her off-collab with Kiara.

That isn't very weird. It is a lot easier to understand and mentally translate than it is to compose. Also if the majority of your learning is through reading it's likely you don't know how to pronounce words but understand them when they are spoken by a native speaker.

IRyS got to Hololive through nepotism and pitching her pre-holo covers that got unrealistic views because of an error in the youtube algorithm. The management was rushing the auditions to catch the wave of the vtubing boom. They ended up hiring this average, bland, and utterly unexceptional girl by accident. Once the contracts were signed, there was no going back. That's why the management has been pissed off at the rotten apple they picked, even though the choice was their fault. They have been giving her some tough love, but she has been too dumb to read the room.
