People either get the product they percieve as best or they settle for an inferior one. The debate is on which one is at the top slot and which one is the decieving inferior copy, like android vs apple.
No one actually wants to use the second best thing if they can have the first one, there's no second slot as much as there's a losing pile of "not first".
DnD is TTRPGs. It is THE tabletop rpg. It is the benchmark for what is and isnt a pen and paper rpg, there's no second slot because if you're not dnd you're simply "not dnd" in the minds of most people, an offbrand rpg that may or may not be better but at the end of the day its thought as "something that isnt dnd", not as its own thing.
There's not and there will never be a real debate of pros and cons between dnd and something else that isnt just people using dnd as a measuring stick instead of comparing two systems as equals.
D&D It is the untouchable standard because it has transcended standards, it has become THE rpg, the one you put in movies, the one you use as the example.
