https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oJO0XVJDlM&t=27083sThis is actually really interesting
So 1. He think it's likely there is going to be a lot of sad announcements this year
2. He likened one of the problems to when characters get a 'Silent Nerf', where there's a patch where a character has been changed to be a lot worse but it isn't written in the patchnotes. He says it's fine if characters get nerfed, but he wishes the devs would actually communicate the changes, because that's what's best for the players.
The metaphor is that the character is the vtuber, the devs are management, and the players are the viewers. They're changing policy in some way. But they're not going to say how things are changing. But the vtubers are going to be forced to just deal with the changes.
He's fighting against the "silent nerf", so that it doesn't happen. And if the nerf does come, he wants it to be public. But it doesn't seem like it will be.
My speculation now, there are lots of possibilities as to what he's alluding to but one is that it's a revenue split change. COVER are going to renegotiate their contracts with the talents and ask for a larger % of the revenue. They already take more than half but they probably want even more. Another possibility is that they're going to massively scale back the support they give to talents maybe, in terms of e.g. time at the studio.
Astel says more or less straight out these upcoming problems are so severe it's affects whether he can even continue to be Astel, his current life as a vtuber. It's serious stuff, large magnitude changes. His motivated tanked to 0 when he got the news, which was the night before the Tournament. CR Cup 10 was the 21st, so he would have received "the news" on the 20th.
He made it clear that this was a change that was going to affect THE ENTIRE COMPANY, not just himself.
He isn't able to say precisely what's going to happen, but he says straight out he can't continue being the vtuber Astel if he doesn't get to 300k subs.
