There is a fantasy-themed D&D game in Japan that was kind of "knock-off" status in the 90's but by now is kind of its own thing. I forget the name.
I believe the most popular (native) TTRPG in Japan is Ryuutama? It's a more "cooperative" kind of game. It has combat and challenges, but without the "scheming GM working to fuck with the party" aspect.
Some fa/tg/uy can correct probably me, but I'm certain that CoC is the most popular western TTRPG there.
