What does an agency offer to an indie? Collabs with other streamers, ok. Also music connections if the the vtuber wants to use streaming as a stepping stone, ok I get it. But anything else?

HoloLive spends pretty heavily on concerts and festivals and that sort of thing, and they also handle taxes (more annoying than you’d expect) and merch. I additionally feel like having management around is a good thing because a lot of these girls are in their early 20s and will yab themselves to death if left to their own devices.

Depends, but if it's the juggernaut like Holo, Niji, or even Vshojo, the branding alone should be the biggest pros from joining them, anything else are just bonuses that come naturally from being in actual "professional" setting.

My twitter account where I repost vore art I like has more followers than this. These guys just suck. It sounds like they sunk four/five digit sums into 0views just praying it would work out and they'd get a revenue stream with nothing to suggest that would be the case.

Basically you can have them handle everything else outside of your stream content or anything that really requires you directly. This means getting sponsorships, hiring managers, making merch, organizing projects, etc.

Debuts probably take the biggest chunk:
Model art, rigging, layouts, song cover. That's already a couple of thousands for each talent, and if they are terminal 2views that never get monetized you will never make that investment back.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Running an agency costs a lot and revenue isn't that high for companies. Every donation for example gets reduced by YouTube, the talent's share and taxes. So for a 10 Euro donation, only like 2 Euro might go to the agency.

Isn't that basically the whole point he is making? The VTuber market is incredibly oversaturated, so any new agency will have a very hard time succeeding.

Hololive does not handle your taxes, the girls all have their own personal tax accountants. At least in EN. ID/JP might be able to all agency due to their geographical proximity, but I don't know if they are or not. Even then Reine's taxes are going to be vastly different than Anya or Noel and Aki. A ton of the girls have income from side stuff.

Idol was a low 2view corpo, for many this agency was already dead and had little to no hope left but still managed to climb up the ranks with their EN branch which is mid 3view and some of their talents reach 4view from time to time, despite this so called oversaturation, If anything this goes to show that investing in exposure when you have decent chuubas backing that up does pay off

This is going to keep happening as venture capital dries up. No more cheap loans as interest rates keep climbing, and so investors will start only putting money into profit generating businesses. Small chuuba agencies don't really generate much revenue against the up front costs. The era of small corpos is quite literally coming to an end. We'll only see self-funded indies and large corpos soon, with a few small corpos that have already carved out a niche like Phase Connect. Expect new talent hiring to be more spaced out, too.

Brand clout that gives you an automatic headstart in terms of subscribers/viewerships. Also you get more help at resolving copyright/community guideline strikes at youtube because they have insider connections.

Since vtubers are sole proprietors and not employees of a company, taxes are handled on an individual basis. While it is possible to get a referral to a tax attorney, the application is done by the individual. many vtubers have stated that they file their own tax returns each year.

It's inevitable with just about every form of entertainment. You have a stage where it's all still new and everyone is trying something new to see what works. Eventually people start realizing some things resonate better than others. Chuubas want to make money so they'll do what sells.
