Note: this is just my opinion.
I've tried to give HoloEN (and other english vtubers a chance like nyanners or projektmelody) and it just doesn't work. HoloEN is definitely a tier above the rest, but from my perspective, the English language/western culture is a toxin that is progressively destroying the v-tuber industry.
I think we should separate western (especially American) culture as far apart from Japanese culture as possible. I have to deal with the same western bullshit every single day of my life, from Trump to crazy Karens, and Japanese media is my escape from that. I would much rather watch a 2 hour stream of some Japanese girl behind a Live2D speak a foreign language I can barely understand, then watch some yankees ruin the entire essence of vtubing with their loud, obnoxious behaviour and cultural defamation. Something that was birthed in Japan should remain Japanese, or at the very least, Asian (like holoCN and holoID) - though I prefer pure Japanese.
Japanese v-tubers are much more polite, gentle, and soft-spoken than English v-tubers. Watching an english v-tuber is no different than watching a degenerate male streamer on twitch. You get spammy chat and a loud banshee. I can't count how many times I've cringed so hard in one of these english streams, yet I've never once cringed or felt uncomfortable in a JP vtuber stream. Furthermore, english Vtubers sexualize the fuck out of themselves. Projekt Melody is an obvious example, but even people like Amelia Watson puts on a delibrately "sexy" voice and tries to fish for free superchats and memberships. This is twitch camgirl mentality. The only decent one is Kiara, but I can only stomach her when she isn't speaking English or German.
Today's 3rd full collab for HoloEN was the final straw for me. It was just fucking weird. Loud screaming, horrible production quality (the squid girls microphone was 50x louder than Mori), and a boring ass game. No chemistry. Meanwhile hololive 5th gen: great synergy, proper turntaking showing basic pragmatic capacity, not being a loud, obnoxious, rude western individual degrading the concept of vtuber..etc
I am also so fucking annoyed at how popular holoEN is. Gawr Gura's voice actor is so fucking boring, but she has a cute? voice and design so people give her 500k subs in 2 weeks? do you know how long people like korone and pekora and marine had to work for that? wtf is this shit? fucking boils my blood when i see the viewercount on some of these holoEn streamers.
Anyway, my rant is finished. I pray v-tubing doesn't take off anymore than it has on western media like twitter and reddit. Already I am extremely fearful of camgirls like Pokimane taking up v-tubing, and the "korone virus" meme where korone is becoming mainstream is really scaring me. I cannot watch anything mainstream, even if it is Japanese. I hope of course the girls (japanese only) can have stable growth, but I pray they never become mainstream. I greatly enjoy the sense of closeness/intimacy rather than the full blown out twitch spammy chats. if hololive becomes so western-mainstream i will have to migrate to something else.
