Why is cringe considered the opposite of based anyway?
If "owning your take regardless of what others think" is based, that doesn't mean that the take isn't generally received as embarrassing or awkward. That the take is one's own speaks little to the quality of the take.
The opposite of based is more along the lines of "debased" (sometimes written "unbased") - a take which has been reduced or adulterated by the influence of others. That influence is also not inherently cringe unless one views being grating to others as the sole motivation for sticking their neck out to make a comment.
And yeah my post is onions and cringe and I can't meme thanks for telling me.
