>>43314312Actually our country is ready and pretty united. But there's many things that stop our country from reaching that.
Soekarno started war with Malaysia and Pembebasan Irian Barat, this made economy went in a slump and Rupiah went into inflation. My grandpa was promised a certain amount of salary before he graduated. But after inflation that salary became too low.
Okay I actually asked and the promised salary was 801 Rupiah. But when he graduated his salary is 3000 Rupiah and with that money in the 60s can only buy 2 set of suits (obviously can't support a family for a month)
The Soekarno wasted more money building Senayan, Hotel Indonesia and Monas. This is for Ganefo, something to rival the Olympic, done by members of KTT Non Block.
Then Soeharto happened. Rather than making our own industries, we became importer of goods. Remember back in the 70s and 80s we buy belt and shoes from Italy, even matches was imported from Dutch. We have everything to become an industrial country but we focus on Agrarian country instead. Focusing so much on food that we can't even export because we lost to Thailand.
Also like a lot of people say, we have "minder" mindset because we think that our own products as inferior. Remember when people start making Indonesian made car a lot of people made fun of it. "Why make our own car when we can buy a Toyota or Honda?"
People forget that Toyota and Honda also started with awful cars. I remember my dad said that back in the 70s buying Japanese car is bad because they're prone to breaking down. Now we buy a Toyota or Honda if we want a good, long lasting car.
Hell, the sentiment was so bad in the 90s when we have a national car called Timor, turn out it's just a rebadged cheap Korean car.
Now look at Malaysia, they made car brand called Proton since the 90s and now they're sold in UK.
We have a lot of chance, we squander it all. Now we try to catch up, but we need to discipline ourselves first.
