No idea what it has to do with her, but that's the demon core. Long story short it's a third bomb that was created in case Japan didn't surrender, but when it wasn't needed it was used to study criticality and a bunch of scientists fucked around and found out that it's not something to be taken lightly. The lucky ones lived long enough to die of cancer. I don't know I'm not a fucking scientist, but the upshot is that it's something that will give you a slow, painful horrific death if handled improperly so I think that's what OP is going for with the comparison.

I think I remember that they used to lift the top part of the core shield using a screwdrier or something.
One time the shield didn't fall properly in place and those present ended up dying in a matter of days.

The more the shield was closed the more it reflected the radiation back into the core causing a chain reaction. One scientist would run an experiment when he would get it closer and closer to completely shutting (and thus killing anyone close to it) by turning a screwdriver in the gap by hand. Other people said he'd get himself killed doing that and one day the screwdriver slipped letting it completely close and 9 days later he was dead.
