I had a parallel experience my first time playing MHFU, but that went very different
My friend recommended me MHFU and I knew nothing about monster hunter at the time, the controls felt slow and clunky, I was hunting poppos then a tigrex comes out of nowhere and kills me, yian kutku kills me, khezu kills me and reflected my sword attacks I didnt know how to get past (also didnt know how to see how much damage I was doing to it in the first place) so the difficulty spike was both really early and overwhelming
But because I knew nothing, it felt a lot more empowering and like it was my own adventure, and then once I started to "get" it everything suddenly clicked and made sense and I had an awesome time playing that game
DS1, I just "gave it a try" because I knew it was so popular and everyone's always talking about it, but rather than the difficulty putting me off, it was kinda more just like ehh I dunno if it's going to be worth it or I'm going to enjoy this game
You already know everyone's going in deep with lore and talking meta and doing skill runs all over the internet so nothing feels much like a discovery or an adventurous process, if that makes sense
I always try to play games nowadays with as little information going in as possible, no matter how popular it is to talk meta or lore about that game on the internet
