Their people are significantly more indoctrinated. Like, Any government would love to have such citizens. Doesn't matter whether it's sincere patriotism or fear, the result is the same as long as they don't fuck up.
And Taiwan's very existence is a fuck up. Officially it's a rebellious province of the PRC.
So they're doing whatever they can do make people forget about it.
Just like if Russia will admit that it's actively fighting a war and it's currently losing then Putin's days are counted.
