>>43967537meh... Kizuna Ai was novelty and became boring after a while. After that came the copycats that nobody cared about until Fubuki did the Scatman video.
people have to understand the context of the events. back in 2019, many people didn't like streaming culture because it was full of gaslighting whores who are bad a video-games. Fubuki has a genuinly deep understanding of otaku culture and she's very good at playing video-games by streamer standards. and hololive's idol culture meant that the drama was being kept away.
Hololive didn't attract a pre-existing streamer community or even a v-tuber community. Hololive created a whole new community altogether. people who didn't watch streams before started watching hololive in particular.
the pre-existing streamer and v-tuber communities only latched on to hololive afterwards. but there is still a very dedicated fanbase that only watches hololive in particular, because of the set of values that it represents.
and let's not forget how every game company was selling out to china and punishing their own players. and how everyone was depressed because of the pandemic. people were extremly demoralized. and in the midst of all this, hololive single handedly decided to protect their own talants instead of giving in to the chinese market. this happened before the "bing shilling" and social credit memes. perhaps people don't realize this in hindsight because we are much less demoralized now, but 2020 was very dark.
