I don't know the details on Marine's sister... the idea that a bad experience in high school made her give up on people certainly sounds like AvPD. But that story could just as easily be colored by the way Marine and others experience interpersonal relationships (valuing and desiring human relationships and being hurt by rejection).
People with SzPD may be able to function in a social setting (having a relatively normal school life, jobs, etc.), but the motivation for that is entirely external, they are only doing what is expected of them, in order to survive. They actually have no desire to be around people, and that can lead to a variety of unusual lifestyles, from being a shut-in dependent on others to living in the woods and stealing food and other necessities. How do you treat a condition like that?
