I'm all for non-traditional ways of wearing kimono, but part of the appeal and charm of kimono is that the pieces that go into it are all standard shapes.
Like the obi, it's a long band of fabric, with basically 3 variations you actually see used. But when you actually go to tie it, you try to knot it into countless different shapes. If instead you just custom-tailored an obi so it perfectly and easily folds into one single shape, that's like taking a piece of origami paper and cutting it up to fold a "perfect" bird.
The collar of the obi hanging off the shoulders instead of sitting on top of them? Sure, charming take on the theme!
The hem of the kimono sliced up to make slits? Not a fan. You do you, I guess, but it's lost the charm in my eyes.
Also, I'm not sure how that hem line actually works, since it's sliced up to one point, but then it's suddenly floor-length again? And the transition is conveniently covered up the sleeve? Because it probably actually looks like shit.
