3. Spending oodles of money of the vtuber instead of spending it on yourself or a worthy cause in self explanatory bad, stupid and says a lot about your rotten mental state if you don't see a problem with it

4.If the streamer asks you not to be parasocial, respect their wishes. Perhaps it grosses them out to see you jerk yourself off to them in superchats, fake confessing love etc. You really don't have to do that. Doing that eventually only lreads to people asking the vtuber things about self harm like it happened numerous times already i.e. with Mysta Rias or Hex

I do think random normalfags from twitch who have a really distorted understanding of the word and were taught it's supposed to be "bad" just parrot whatever the streamer tells them to think, nevermind the fact you can be parasocial for someone without it being sexual at all.

However with vtubers I think pretty much yeah a lot of it is just masking intent. You know, they'd be the types to go "oh noo of course I'm not parasocial that's for losers!!" and pretend to have a GF or be married or something to try to get a chuuba to let her guard down and get closer and closer to her.

Reminds me of the many times there were people super loudly outspoken about anime lolis on twitter later getting literally arrested for actual CP. Not exactly the same thing but there's an echo there of performative public denouncing of something to clear suspicion off yourself.

In effect because vtubing is in essence just girls being socialite panhandlers in public but in cute anime form, there is almost no conceivable reason to watch them that -isn't- parasocial in at least some way, because few of them are legit entertainers that you'd gladly keep on several hours a day every day for years nonstop, the cuteness/sexiness absolutely factors in as part of what makes it entertaining for viewers.

Given that essentially the entire medium is parasocial, to pretend you're above it is to flat out be fucking dishonest with yourself and with your peers. To try to force this dishonest illusion that we're not all here at least in part because chuubas give you a more personal friend-like feeling than the usual media we consume is a disservice trying to force the community to not be completely honest with itself which is both cowardly and dangerous in the long run.

I wish more people would, because honestly there's nothing wrong with parisocial relationships. So long as you realize that they exist and that you are never going to be somebody in that person's life that they actually love and care about. If you don't go full schizo basically and and realize that you are just watching an entertainer, then there is nothing wrong with it .
The streamers themselves usually enjoy the relationship too, because it's nice to have a positive feedback loop .
There are countless great videos by different chuubas about the fact that parasocial relationships aren't necessarily a bad thing, but unfortunately flesh streamers who hate their audiences have forever ruined the word

I was for parasocial relations until the cold hard reality that they were entertainers dawned on me and they were never going to chase me like I did them. If a Vtuber started commenting on my Twitter like Rushia used to do my guard might break. However.
When I started streaming I said I wouldn't do it because I didn't like how it felt when I did it but I remember my chatters names and like talking to them so...not sure how to NOT be parasocial with chat on both ends.
