"You look sick" or "you look tired" seems to be a socially acceptable way of saying "your lack of makeup is making me uncomfortable, please put some makeup on." But there are many reasons why it could be making that person uncomfortable. If you seemed really confident without makeup, maybe that made them feel insecure? Or maybe they really do think you're sick or tired since you usually do your makeup and today you didn't? Or perhaps they were taught that women should always wear makeup and they think they're looking out for you? Men do that last one to each other too, when it comes to being manly. I think you're right and most people will agree that makeup does look very nice, but that doesn't mean that we can't learn to be more comfortable with women not wearing makeup for whatever reason (and more generally, with letting other people make decisions for themselves that we personally do not agree with).
