In any other domain it involves the participation of multiple franchises/companies/whatever. In the vtuber industry it got this mistaken connotation that any stream with two or more vtubers is a collab because back during the 4 kings era you only had vtubers that were single in their companies (Ai, Luna etc.) so people shifted their attention to the presence of multiple vtubers in an event instead of the fact that they came from different companies.
