>>45420310We might go by different definitions of murder. Not all murder is equal to- walk up to someone and shoot them in the head. Not all murderers are torturers, and honestly not all of them comprehend the finality of what they're doing. There's a TED talk I watched of a former gangster that shot someone in a drug deal or whatever as a teenager, served time for it and has spent his life since release doing good things for society and trying to atone. Should we really go eye for an eye, when the person has proven remorse? I mean, use your empathy to think about how a killer might feel. They know what they did is wrong but they can't ever wash it away. Think about how that feels. The victim lost the remainder of their life's possibilities, the greatest tragedy, but there is another present. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt because I know deep down I can't say for sure that I wouldn't do the same things if I was in their position. That shit is inside all of us but we like to pretend we're all heroes and not capable of it under certain circumstances. So empathy foremost should go to the victim, but there should be empathy for the perpetrator as well. But of course there are shades of gray to this, it's not always easy to settle on an absolute right or wrong in those cases.
I just think if you have true guilt and want to atone there's hope for you. I don't ever want to label someone as irredeemable or unforgivable because I am human like them.
