It didn't die after the sidekick speech, Gura still played into it around that time.
It died shortly after Council debuted and ship with Shion, that's where Gura stopped all the Ame mentions.
As for Ame, she never truly cared for shipping roleplay nor she can do it correctly (which is probably a good thing since shipbait is pretty dishonest). That's probably why nobody pushes a ship with her, Kiara tried and failed.
