An honest look at history shows that people who can organize mobs to harass other people are always the ones who get the power in the end. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Harassment gets appeasement.
There may be plenty of bystanders who don't like what is happening, but it ultimately doesn't matter because they are powerless to do anything about it. It's like a group of people roaming through a field of potted plants with weedwhackers, chopping down any ones they please at leisure.
People who want to win beat people who just want to be left alone every time - even if the latter outnumber the former 100 to 1, or even 1000 to 1; because the former is coordinated, while the latter isn't. A coordinated group can destroy a mass of individuals of any size by defeating them in detail, one by one.
The group is proactive, works to achieve positions of strength, and fights as one; while the mass is reactive, allows the group to prepare unmolested, and if a number of the mass does come under attack, they fight only their own battle alone, the rest do not stand up with them.
The plain truth is if you are not willing to lead lynch mobs to harass people, even if just to defend your own slices of life from intruders, then you're just going to cede the field by default to those that are willing, whoever they may be exactly; like an immunocompromised AIDS patient, dying of opportunistic infections.
