Real life idols also don't make sweeping "no males" statements for that exact reason. Typical fans expect them not to get intimately involved with males, but understand that in the various music/voice professions, interacting with men is inevitable to some extent. Kanata ended up attracting the kind of audience that would get upset over even minor interactions, and so felt she had to go so far to appease them.
