Once anime stops being novel it loses a lot of its appeal. You'll then only want quality, which is in short supply. I eventually stopped watching it entirely. Manga isn't any better by the way, but it is faster to sift through. That might buy you a couple years of entertainment before you tire of it as well.

I think what made me lose interest in anime was finally realizing how badly animated so much of it is. I dunno how I put up with it for so long. You shit on movies but I definitely have a much easier time finding good movies than I do good anime. And I think that is it, getting into live action movies made me realize that anime really isn't all that special. I definitely agree with Yuko's inclination towards watching movies instead of anime.
Mind you I'm not some braindead idiot who only watches CGI-filled blockbusters. I am the kind of person who enjoys real movies, filmed with real sets. I never have to worry about some hideously bad animation when I watch those movies. Something like a Terrence Malick film is worlds above anything I have ever seen from anime.
