That’s far more related to the fact that the company is filled with socially awkward autists. If you’re not menhera, chances are you either don’t want to collab with them simply because Lumi or Lia or Pippa are a lot to handle, or you’re Lisa Chikafuji.

They give the name of the roaster they hire (Tales Coffee in Vancouver) to make the coffee. An actual company that actually does this full-time has its reputation on the line. Fishman wouldn’t be allowed to get away with that because his business partners would destroy him for that.
Also, you can taste the difference between different types of coffee easily as a rank amateur. Just admit that you’re a poorfag who grew up with poorfag tastes, and that’s why you can’t taste the difference.

I think Fishman knew the people he worked with for the coffee from before he started Phase Connect. At any rate, I don’t expect a bunch of late millennials/older zoomers to be coffee autists. Real talk: CPG is a hard space, never mind beverages. Fucking bottom-of-the-barrel margins until you're at megascale, or unless you become some niche trend or status symbol--which of course everyone knows so people are already trying.
Maybe they do a one-off partnership where they whitelabel, or co-brand some limited run flavor of an existing drink? I could see that being centered on one or two conventions that are close to each other in time. Shipping liquids to individuals is expensive, and warehousing costs if you don't sell enough is also going to eat into margins.

It's a cute idea, but not an economical one. I doubt even Cover could do an energy drink promo anywhere outside of Japan.

I suspect that their sitting around with their thumbs up their asses trying to pretend they "understand" the market better than the JP headquarters because they read reddit echo chambers all day where they didn't immediately shit on the idea of starsEN (because they'd get banned for doing that) is how they came around to it. They only listen to places they control - which is literally just crafting a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's like telling their kids you're going to ground them if they don't eat their veggies, so they eat their veggies, and then the parents go around telling the other parents "my kid LOOVES his broccoli, finishes every bite!" - that is what management does to itself and tells the leadership.

Even a few months after Muumi was hired Pippa was primed to return to her prior life, launching a new live2d and everything, so ironing out the internal conflict took a bit more than just hiring a competent manager. Thankfully we've seen a pretty smooth year at Phase Connect since then and that alone puts them ahead of basically every other small corp these days.

I believe fishman and some of the girls have talked about the contract, they have "bonks" aka minor warnings, "strikes" are more serious and get three or four means getting fired, and there are a few terms that violating would mean immediate firing.
