Your "R" sound is basically pronounced as "ar".
Your first mistake is to try and pronounce R when you have your tongue in place for an L. You will never roll your Rs if you pronounce like "Ar".
Remove the "a" from the "ar". Now just push air through your tongue while keeping it in the form of the L.
Practice with the word "drat" by trying to roll your R.
