vtubing in Japan grew in tandem with Japanese streaming in general. It's why no one really thinks twice about it because it's always been part of the culture.

In the west, streaming culture was already established long before western vtubers became mainstream. So it will always be seen as that weird thing women and "women" do just because they don't want to facecam that day.

On the streamer side; If they get popular and we can leech they’re cool but if they ignore us they’re either whores or slaves to fans.

This is how they used to view all anime fans. It’s probably been worse because of ‘anime/video game’ streamers like OTK, TT, a few others started off against them since they were getting ignored. Then it eventually turned into a hololive is the problem not vtubers in general

Vtubing in japan, at least on hololive, is seen as a professional job on the same vein as japan's idol industry. Their Idols sing, appear on tv, etc etc.
It's different from vtubing on the west that's just seen as an extension to average streamers that flash boobs while playing games.
