This is the view in the West (thanks to hololive dominating the scene here), but someone like Kuzuha is absolutely watched by normals. Niji also has that huge ass baseball tourney which brings on a ton of tourists from the normalsphere.

Several manga series have explored the dark side of the idol industry. Japanese idol companies were sleazier when the Yakuza ran them but there is a reason they continue to have a bad reputation.

Most of HoloEN being fans of Oshi No Ko is not a surprise and they don't want to be idols. They would prefer to be general entertainers but Cover isn't quite ready let go of the idol business model.

Going to spoil it and mention that the Ruby starts an idol group with the other side characters and take the country by storm by how amazing they are. Theres even a scene where idol otaku get emotionally moved by the group's performance.

This isn't the "IDOL CULTURE BAD!!!!" anime you wanted it to be. It's more of a "the entertainment business is scummy" anime but the idol industry comes off with the most generous depiction
