>>47314337As a clipwatcher and cataloguenigger who doesn't actually watch streams, nor care about vtubers and idol culture in general, I would like to give my unwarranted opinion.
Let's begin with the length of the first episode. Approximately 80 minutes, the length of four normal anime episodes. Yet the majority of that 80 minutes isn't used for anything. The characterization could have easily been condensed into a normal, or even just double length episode and it would have been much nicer, especially since there are only two scenes where anything actually happens.
Second is the characters. Goro and Sarina are not interesting characters in the slightest, which is fine considering what happens, but there is also too much time spent on them because of that. All that needed to be done was establish who they are. The rest can come later, since they have memories of their past lives after reincarnating. To add, Aqua and Ruby bring nothing to the show by existing other than "lol children who impress adults because they themselves still have the minds of adults." It's been done to death and is very rarely done well.
By far, though, the most egregious character is Ai, though calling her a character is being very generous. 80 minutes of build-up and for what? She has the personality of a cardboard box. There is absolutely nothing interesting about her. Her death evokes no emotions because she feels like an undeveloped background character. The whole pregnancy thing just felt like an excuse to kill her off, which is fine, but then why waste 80 minutes on her? If it was to make the viewer grow attached to her, then they probably should have gone for more than just a "teehee, I'm a ditz."
So why am I seething? Because I was told that the 'twist' would be worth it. Because I read people saying they were getting emotional and that the ending to the episode was life-changing and made them fall into a well of despair.
I'm seething because I'm a fucking double-digit IQ retard who actually fell for the hype and sat through that slog only to end up thinking "That's it?"
Is it my fault for trusting anime fans? Absolutely. Am I a fucking retard? Definitely. And perhaps that's why I'm still mad. A normal person would have just moved on by now. But not me. I will continue to seethe until I inevitably forget because my brain is too small to retain information for more than a week.
