As to your question, I'd would say that EN fans in 2020 felt basically untouchable because there was no meaningful competition in the EN sphere and it looked like HoloEN would become top of the world even before HoloJP; only big Japanese vtubers and their fans could even be seen as rivals (outside of conflicts between individual Myth fanbases, which there was plenty of).
So when the Myth fans flooded into /jp/ and found the oldfags there seething at the "western contamination" of "their" hobby the Myth fans saw themselves as the future, and the JP-only purists as people who lived in the past and would never be Japanese. Like people who insisted Japanese phones were still superior to western phones in the late 2000s.
