>>47543182It's so dificult to put into words why Oshi no Ko is bad because the reason is deeply rooted in psychology and even esotericism. I will try to make an attempt anyways though. I wil also mainly address hololive JP fans here as I think they are the ones that will understand it the most:
Oshi no Ko's entire premise is that idol culture is built on lies and that parasocialism is bad. This is what has been already established in the west a long time ago, mind you (that's why I address JP fans). Thats why western idols/vtubers are so different from Japanese ones. Western vtubers being poisoned by irony and being unable to unironically tap into the parasocial idol culture is obviously a loss, because the potential of emotional connection you and the idol can develop is actually real. This goes back to the psychological and innate human desire to find a connection with the divine or the Jungian anima/animus in order to grow as a person and find fulfillment. Vtubing allows that to an extent that has never been possible before. Now up until this point the Japanese culture, specifically the otaku culture has been a keeper of that connection and naturally cultivating it, protecting it from being poisoned by irony. However, with a hit piece like Oshi no Ko that barrier receives a heavy blow and the poison is leaking into the otaku culture as we speak.
Now it's going to be very difficult to keep that connection even for Japanese audiences, talents and most importantly future generations of idols and their fans. This will eventually westernize japanese idols, vtubers, holomen and make them indistinguishable from western ones in terms of attitude towards idol culture. The entire culture of otaku, idols is being destroyed in front of us. This was by the way the aim of the mangaka as he is a raging anti-japanese feminist.
Japan will end up with a bunch of impressionable young women reading or watching propaganda like Oshi no Ko and getting brainwashed into thinking a good idol is one that lies all the time and that fans are terrible people. Obviously those are blatant lies (the irony) but how are they going to understand that now? Expect all present and future gens of hololive JP to be women unable to really connect with their audience on a deeper level. Expect women and fans unable to develop the anima/animus connection. And that's the gist of what's wrong with Oshi no Ko.
