It's pretty clear when Hololive and Nijisanji tightly stuck to their niches while debuting EN, focusing much more on binding them to JP culture than having them develop their own homegrown culture that could actually appeal to westerners on a wider scale.
It's very telling to see so many Niji/HoloEN fans not even being from a western country.
The board may not like it, but I feel that the true victor of a potential EN-speaking market must ultimately come from the West.
In this regard, I think indies/Vshojo have an advantage over western small corpos, who still feel somewhat pigeonholed into following Hololive's formula, with the exception of Pippa.
It remains to be seen if a company like Idol can modify their current holoENclone format that's become increasingly niche,
into a winning formula that's able to capture a broader western crowd indifferent to "traditional" vtubers.
