He should've kept it cheap so people would actually buy it. By amping up the price he only turned everyone's attention to how meaningless it is to buy one. You can justify pissing away 8USD on a meaningless symbol, but thousands of dollars? Tens of thousands all talents considered? lol no. He fell into the trap of thinking everything will be some sort of Web 3 cyberpunk future like so many others, when the reality is people are getting more and more turned off and tuned out from everything of that kind. If anything, huge things like Twitter, Facebook, Google etc. are probably dinosaurs on the way out and the Internet will gradually shift back to the forum/small site paradigm. And on top of that money is running out in the economy as a whole, making my prediction even more likely.
