Is it better when the vtuber reads donations throughout or at the end of the stream? I can see an argument for either side.

Donation readings in the middle of a stream is always a momentum killer. Only parasocial viewers likes that shit because the coomer reacting to their donation is what they're there for, not watching the stream.

As a Dragoon, reading the donos at the end of the stream is always the best because sometimes it evolves into a comfy zatsudan.
Sometimes she read some supas in the middle of single player games, but only the ones that are short or an actual funny one (this way she avoid the retards spamming the same shit over and over with 5 dollar donos).
Another method I liked (Selen used to do that) is have a special stream only to read the donos, just like Ame.

pekora was a good example of ignoring a superchat spammer trying to get a meme reaction out of her in the middle of her gaming. she gave in and just said thanks for one of them but dude blew about $100 in small chats just for that lol

All comments, including donations, should be treated equally and based purely on quality. Treat comments like they're pitches thrown at you and read the ones you can knock out of the park. Marine for example is super good at this.
Basically, a vtuber should read funny comments or comments that she can use as a setup for something funny/entertaining.

There should be an optional and adjustable system for Youtubers where the sender can mark supas of a certain value as "read now" while all others are expected to be read later.

Doing this would just set a bad precedent anyways, essentially saying you have to pay X amount in order for me to interact with you. They could probably make a lot of money that way, but it looks awful ethically and would just serve to interrupt the stream.

Yes, the channel owner would set the prize point, and they could cultivate expectations about not marking your superchat the wrong way - if it's irrelevant to what's happening now, it should be low priority.
I get your reservation, but that's already what superchats are - chat messages privileged by money, and many vtubers already read at least some as they pop up. It'd just bring more order into it and clear up expectations.

If you're not capable like Kiara or Marine to make a reading stream interesting, then just say thank you and move the fuck on. In the rare instance a SCer has something interesting to say, take time to address it. Hours of SC reading streams just pads the numbers.

Marine doesn't even do SCs reading stream, all she does is reading mostly akasupa and saying thank you at the end of each streams for 20-40min while replying to some comments in the chat
