This is the logical end result of the last 10-15 years of anime becoming """normal""", you have a lot of people who have watched like one anime, dubbed, inserting themselves as "total otaku nerds XD" into hobbies they don't really care about. Somehow these people pay a hundred bucks per ticket or whatever to go to anime conventions, then get offended when people ask them details of the character they're cosplaying because they only picked that character because "it's cute".
What's worse is that things will obviously get worse, westerners will say "I like anime (watched one episode of DBS, dubbed) BUT" and then demand it be just as shitty as american cartoons.
