the only way vtubing would have kept itself was if companies like hololive were diligent on what it meant to be a vtuber or idol vtuber during holoEN 1, anything less seems like it would have inevitably lead to today - not to say that idol vtubing was the only way but it should have at least been one explicit way.
now people vtube as a cosmetic, nothing distinctive from the separate hobby of streaming that consumers chose away from.
