How expensive is it to get animation done?
I see corpos doing that now and I'm wondering if maybe I could get something like that done but as an indie?

2d takes retarded long. if you're smart you do 3d since it's much quicker in the long run but there's more setup since you need to rig and model shit. it depends on how you want it to look though.
Actually learning 3d to the point where you can make a good animation probably takes 2-3 years, but there's so many blender tutorials and free assets that you could make something decent in a few months or even just weeks, though you wouldn't understand shit and it would be terrible if something didn't work and you had to figure out why.

There are amateur animators on the internet who take commissions for much less though. Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, and Newgrounds are the best areas to look.
