There are videos that are enjoyably, but you know that watching them is nothing but a waste of time. An enjoyable waste of time, but a waste of time nonetheless. These videos are most often just pretty dressed up nothing. Shorts suffer from this the most, as a very big part of tiktoks and shorts are just a pretty dress up of nothing of value.
Vtuber content is often similar in that what they produce is nothing of value if you just look at the content of the videos on its own. The pretty dress up for that nothing that Vtubers use is often paracosiality. When the interest of the viewer lies mostly with the person producing the stream/video, the lack of actual content becomes less important.
So yes there is a personal touch to youtube videos that can enhance content that is already good on its own, but that is something different then using parasociality to dress up a lack of actual content.
And i think that if we are honest with ourselves, it is quite easy to tell if you just enjoy the personal touch to an already interesting video, or if the person behind the video is the only reason that you are watching it in the first place.
And with Vtuber fans, i think the second case is far more prevalent.
