In Japan once you graduate from college you are expected to land a job with a big conglomerate and then work with them for the rest of your life. They take care of you and you are loyal to them. If you are fired for bad behavior, you are essentially blacklisted from all the other companies for life and your career is over.
Black companies hire workers straight from college, and then work them 15 hours a day 6 days a week. If they threaten to quit, the company says that they're free to do that as long as they're prepared to face the consequences. Every now and then they'll make an example out of someone who gets uppity enough to show everyone else they aren't kidding. So your choices are wage slavery for a shitty company or throwing your education and career into trash bin. This is why a bunch of black company workers just end up killing themselves.
This is just the same logic applied to vtubers. Zaion got pissy with management and now they want to show the rest of nijiEN that it's not going to fly and that they can end their career as a corpo vtuber if they choose to.
