- they are "diamonds in the rough" i.e. untapped potential and growth
- they are "carriers of dreams" i.e. along with aiming towards their own goals, they carry the dreams of their fans
- they are the "light of hope" i.e. no matter how dark or grim society/humanity gets, they are the evershining light that represents that there's still goodness in the world
"Idol culture" is just the actions and norms of the industry and fans around the modern idol concept. You cheer and support the idol in their journey towards whatever goal they have. You protect the idol from those who wish to tear them down.
The whole "an idol must be pure and perfect" is an old standard from the 1970s-1990s era of idols. Nobody adheres to that anymore and it's always weird when people bring that up in the context of modern idols.
