>>49125707>It'd be easy for her to play into selling you a pipe dreamShe's quite literally been doing that for years. I think most of /vt/ is under no illusion that Hololive's whole shtick is appealing to lonely social rejects, especially men, as much as possible and presenting them with an illusion of friend- and/or partnership. Most people are fully aware of how the anime girl they're watching is a filtered, idealized version of who Fauna's roommate really is; that this seemingly perfect girl that shares their hobbies and interests, sings to and plays instruments for them, and only ever expresses positiveness is not a real person, but a facade.
Nonetheless, people willfully decide to endulge in that fantasy. When fans buy dakimakuras or voice packs and listen to intimate ASMR content, they very clearly foster a very different, more personal kind of relationship with their favorite chuuba than the one they might have with an actor or musician they like, whom they might maybe buy a blu-ray or t-shirt from. Now, when a vtuber directly states that the fantasy she and her fans have built for each other is merely that, a fantasy and never reality, she is violently tearing down the dreamworld that her fans have decided to be a part of. She is obviously right in what she is saying from a plain, logical standpoint, but nonetheless such a blunt reminder of their sad reality is bound to hurt people and beget a negative response.
To sum up, the vast majority of people are fully aware that Hololive is a fantasy and they choose to escape into that fantasy from time to time because it makes them feel happy. Being reminded of how that fantasy is not reality is not only condescending, but serves to deprive people of this source of happiness - it's especially bad when something like this comes from a Hololive member who has actively been expanding upon and nurturing that fantasy for years by very purposefully acting in ways that makes the audience happy and avoiding topics that may make the audience unhappy (there's a reason you don't hear chuubas talk about their political opionions, romantic experiences, or really any other topic that can be expected to snub parts of the audience). Just like I don't need to be reminded 300 pages deep into the Silmarillion that The Shire isn't real, I don't need Fauna telling me that we'll never be friends. Obviously, I don't feel any sort of genuine "hate" towards her, but I think she fucked up here by deviating from the role she's supposed to play.
