During a watchalong, you usually watch a movie or an anime show that is at least somewhat decent. During react content streams, you most likely just watch sanitized meme compilations because they cant show anything spicy and actually funny (if we're talking about big corpos, dunno about smaller ones, maybe they can get away with some edgier stuff).

Watchalong is the content I skip because I'm usually driving while watching from my phone. React content is the only content from Twitch streamers I consume since it's on YT.

This is unrelated, but I think there needs to be a website or app that has a system for human curated content that still benifits the original creator because I think what attracts people to reaction streams on Twitch the most is that they're having trouble finding something that interests them and the automated algorythms used throughout social media are failing them, so they turn to reaction streamers instead to find it for them.

As for your question, OP, the people who watch watchalongs have to own the movie/show and likely have already seen it too, were as most people who watch reaction streams are children that need to be constantly stimulated at all times.

It's very minor
Watchalong is usually an actual film or TV series, usually picked by the vtuber themselves while "react" streams usually short snippets of media like YT vids or Tiktoks and also cover a wide variety of content, usually picked by the viewers
The reason why react streams are usually more popular than watchalongs is cause the former typical allows for greater streamer/viewer interaction and allows the streamer to show what they're looking at on screen, but the latter filters most viewers cause they're expected to go buy/rent a movie themselves if they want the full experience

Theoretically, there's something of merit to discuss when it comes to film and television (shot composition, audio mixing, various analysis, and etc.). Although, most watchalongs do eschew this aspect.
But with with TikTok compilations and videogame essays, there's not even a possibility of insight or any real discussion.

There isn't. Watchalongs are always used as schedule filler when the girl is burnt out or needs to fill a day. Its lazy but as long as its not done every week people don't mind. The only reason people have such a negative reaction towards react content is that it has become the only content for many streamers at this point. React content is a black hole, steamers can go for days just mindlessly being fed slop by the algorithm. With watchalongs there is an expectation that once the film is over, they go back to doing something else.

Watchalongs don't include the movie in the video. So you go out of your way to find the movie, sync the start with your oshi and watch it together. It's a friend experience

React content have the video they're reacting to in the frame. So most people watch this shit for the short version of the video reactor is watching. Don't give me bullshit about the emotions, dead fish reactors get the same number of views for popular shit. People don't watch react content for the reaction, they just want noise to distract themselves
