It really only worked somewhat well with Kson, mostly because she was the first instance after the Vtuber boom in 2020.
Chuubas like Pikamee were so iconic that it just feels like a lifeless imitation to have someone else.
As a sidenote, I'm hoping people start to realize that there's a similar effect when a chuuba has a drastic art style change on their model. The Vshojo girls and snuffy are way too guilty of this. It's something I really appreciate in Hololive. They've got a 2D and a 3D style, and just tack on different outfits.
Irys got a new model because of some artistry drama, but it still looks almost identical to her launch one (while not being completely terrible to look at.)
