Ask yourself: why did those jobs not come back after unions were destroyed everywhere except the public sector? Why, in fact, did even more jobs disappear? Could it be they always intended to get the cheapest, most slave-condition labor they could get, if allowed to by politicians?

And I say all of this as someone who generally thinks unions are bullshit and can be counter-productive. But they have nothing to do with why the US has no domestic industry now. It's the result of letting the merchant and financier-class pillage the country and show no concern for the well-being of their own country.

Yes, that's because unions are just another hierarchy and the union bosses are the equivelant of CEOs that are disconnected from their base. See union bosses endorsing Biden while most union workers narrowly supported Trump, etc. They're just another extension of the normal power structure once they get big enough, though I will say small local unions tend to be pretty based, because they aren't corrupt.
They definitely aren't the cause though.
