True idol culture and vtuber idol culture are of course very different things but vtuber idol culture takes a lot from real idol culture, and everyone on the vtuber audience sort of knows the vtuber hololive type of idol culture.
It's a symbol of prestige, a brand, something that gets people's attention.
I do think that naming the company "idol" had nothing to do with the bullshit the blog said, they just wanted a name that would get people's attention and something that people would relate to the most popular company. The whole logic they made up is like an explanation they tried to cook to make some sense out of the name despite not really doing idol things.
But that's just my rrat schizo theory.
