Played that game on Mega Drive (Genesis for USA) which had the yellow devil fixed, so the movement was actually always dodgeable and less RNG. Maybe you did play it on SEGA back then too.

That's completely untrue. Once you memorize the pattern it's not particularly hard to do the fight, so an expert wouldn't have any trouble with it.

I just heard it was easier on Sega in the Wily Wars edition.
