Every death in Edith Finch has a mundane explanation. None of them just die due to Final Destination supernatural bullshit. Cancer, a kid fell off a cliff because of a poorly-thought out swingset location, a man gored by a deer he shot and didn't finish off, suicide while having a delusion, hit by a train, natural disasters.

Isn't that sort of the point of the game? There is no "curse", there is a family that has a predisposition to taking foolish risks, and at times a history of being negligent towards their children. The "curse" is a convenient explanation; a way for the adults in the family not to take personal responsibility.

This. I was intrigued by the lore and I think it's actually a rather interesting world, but playing was just frustrating.

Tbh I think it's part of the point; the gameplay reflects the narrative. But it gives up playability to have the gameplay itself be part of the art.

The thing is though there was a prequel game that was blatantly supernatural where one of the characters was heavily implied to be one of the Finch's in this game.
My theory was the curse was a deal the Grandma or Grandpa made for their family to be rich and successful but it led to everyone in the family being unlucky or having no self preservation.
