It's only a matter of time before Youtube follows suit. Youtube loses a ton of revenue from vtubers promoting their streamelements donation link and incentivizing it over superchats for donothons. They're going to crack down on it eventually.

Twitch is run in such an authoritarian anti-fun anti-viewer and anti-streamer way that it is jaw dropping they have viewers and streamers at all.

Every time I go on there, I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of cucks who love to be abused. The only people who get anything positive out of the experience are the huge streamers that are paid Gorillions of bucks by Twitch themselves to play dictator and ban audience members for even the most gentle of ribbing or pushback at some stupid or wrong thing they said while the rest of the audience pogs and squeals in glee at the abuse.

Twitch has been the only site i've seen where they've been actively trying to thwart adblocking solutions. Every new extension that pop ups get killed within a month. They even try to force ads to you through legitimite means. Like having a amazon prime subcription used to give you sitewide adblocks. And they're forcing creators to run ads in the middle of the streams as part of their renewal contract.

They REALLY are focusing on ads. Smells like desparation. As if Twitch is losing amazon a lot of money and they don't want to disappoint daddy bezos.

Not relevant data. Primary twitch data are streams statistics. All you can get from that is when, who and what they were watching. There is no direct link from Twitch to Amazon. At best they can see if you seen an ad before buying something. You can get that much from any of the services I said in my example without them being skewed to certain demographics and interests.

The problem is that Twitch doesn't have as much data to sell. Sure, they can see who you watch/follow, but how do they know if you actually liked a stream? How do they know what your specific interests are. YouTube can pinpoint exactly what your interests are and use that data to recommend you more of what you want, and advertisers love that. This is YouTube's MO and has been since Google took over in 2007. They will change and update literally everything about the site EXCEPT the things that need to be fixed.
Have you ever tried to look at your comment history? It used to be housed in-site but now inexplicably redirects to a Google account page, has for years.
YouTube's streaming is now and has always been an afterthought.
"Improvement" is not in YouTube's vocabulary.

Meta content aside, Youtube's videos are more useful. Twitch is mostly game content or static camera angles of a single person sitting in their room. Remember, according to Larry Page the stated prime reason and objective for Google's existence is to build an synthetic AI god, to achieve AGI (and therefore rule the world with it). The core limitation on today's AI models is the raw amount of training data (i.e. the chinchilla thesis). It turns out that for as big as the internet is we've basically hit the cap for text datasets harvested from its complete content in terms of total tokens. But the next step is to train the models directly on video content, of which Google (through Youtube) has the single biggest repository of general and unedited video content on the planet. As such Google has a vested interest in accruing as much of that extremely valuable data as possible, and may be able to justify keeping Youtube alive forever even if it's a massive permanent money sink.
